Wrestlemania 24 Recap
Properties of WWE
Wrestlemania 24 has came and gone and it was another dandy of a show. Not the best, but it is one of the more entertaining. I would have it in top ten at least. Anyways, here is my thoughts.
Finlay v. JBL
The Belfast Brawl
Did not see until the ending video recap. I saw alot of things I would have liked. JBL throwing the trash can lid at Hornswoggle made me LOL. JBL with the win and I suspect this to continue. No ranking on this.
Money in the Bank Ladder Match
Chris Jericho v. CM Punk v. Mr. Kennedy v. Shelton Benjamin v. Carlito v. John Morrison v. MVP
Excellent MITB. Lots of high spots. Morrison with the moonsault while holding a ladder, Shelton sunset flipping into a powerbomb as Kennedy superplexed Morrison, Shelton being pushed off the top of the ladder smashing into a ladder outside, Walls of Jericho on the ladder to Morrison, the ladder getting stuck in the other and CM Punk winning.
Morrison, Carlito, and Shelton took the brunt of the bumps and hopefully they will get some good programs later in the year. Also, MVP got his dreams shattered when Matt Hardy came through the crowd and gave the Twist of Fate off the ladder. Overall this was a 4/5.
Smackdown v. Raw
Batista v. Umaga
Batista shone last year against Taker but this match was far from that. I like Umaga and Batista but something was weird about this match. They were holding back and Batista barely getting the Batistabomb for the W was brutal. 2/5
ECW Heavyweight Championship Match
Chavo v. Kane
Kane won a battle royal earlier which I really wanted the Kendrick/London feud to shine on through. Oh well, anyways, Kane in from behind, chokeslam, Chavo lost. Obviously Kane is getting his much deserved Heavyweight title reign that he deserves for jobbing all these years. Not rating as it was a squash but 5/5 for Kane finally meaning something.
Career Threatening Match
Flair v. HBK
Match of the night, no matter what. Perfect match. Flair was on his game tonight. He pulled out the stops but so did the Heartbreak Kid. HBK looked to have killed his ribs on a sick moonsault from the top and landing hard on the announce table. Lil’ Naitch was reffing. This match is a classic and always will be held in high regard. HBK with the W to end Flair’s career. I’m sorry, I love you. 5/5
Bunnymania
Did not care except for Santino. Lights went out and I immediately thought Santino pulled the plug somewhere. Santino is awesome and got clotheslined after the match by Snoopy the Dogg(Snoop Doog). Snoop making out with Maria was nasty. 1/5
WWE Championship
Orton v. HHH v. Cena
Cena gets played out by a band, awesome. Triple H finally with his regular entrance, awesome. Randy Orton, automatically awesome. Fast paced match as Orton controlled for awhile hitting a double rope assisted DDT until he got taken out by his opponents. Great spot when Cena had Orton in the STFU and Trips came in and put Cena in the Crossface. Overall, good match and I’m glad Orton retained. Orton/HHH anyone? 3.5/5
Mayweather v. Show
Show completely was the man in this match. Mayweather actually took bumps and such and I applaud him for that. Mayweather’s posse got tore up in this match. Mayweather won via shenanigans(brass knux). I wish Mayweather would stick around for a rematch but alas this is a one time thing. 2.7/5
World Heavyweight Championship
Edge v. Taker
Edge finallys gets the main event of the big show to prove he can entertain and he did indeed. Edge was going toe to toe with Taker and its funny to think not 6-7 years ago Edge was scared like a baby to Biker Taker and now here he is, main eventing and showing Taker up. But that didn’t last long as Taker won with the worse submission ever. I don’t like it but Taker needs to stay undefeated. 4/5
Overall this was a great night and I wish there were more skits or backstage interviews but I am satisfied and that’s the main reason I buy WM every year. Good effort by all.
